The Ogden Valley 50 miler was one of those races we talked about in the store for a couple of years before we decided to actually run it in 2006.  The original idea was to make it a 50K, but Pete Peterson said he would run it if it was a 50 miler (Pete needs to come back and see what he started).  So we did it thinking nobody would ever want to do that again.  Well, 6 years later the race still lives, and because Old Snowbasin road has caved in, we brought back the course from 2006.  We had 30 starters this year and every single one of them finished!  This was the closest race to date with Shane Martin edging Michael Bergquist by less than a minute.  Sariah Long cranked out a fantastic performance by winning the female race and finishing third overall (her first ultra distance).  I hope she doesn't get mad at me, but Sariah had the best comment after finishing by saying she was going to go get pregnant now (have fun Nate).  Taud Olsen ran a gutsy race and finished 3rd amongst the males then kept running until he clocked 52.4 miles, making it back to back marathons. Lauren Halverson is going to celebrate her PR run and 2nd place female finish by getting married in January.  Launi Evans rounded off the money winners by placing third in the female category.  It was a great day for running, the temperatures ranging from 30-50 degrees in Ogden Valley; the fall colors are amazing right now.  We had the best help for this race; thanks to Tim Maurer, Holly Halverson, Rebecca Brimhall and Kristen Walker for helping with the meals on wheels.  Pastor Greg Baker offered up the Fellowship Bible Church at mile 27, thanks so much.  David Seedenburg, Mike Rosner and Larry Mangum are ultra marathon aid station experts, we're lucky to have them on our team - thank you.  Justin Walker and Shad Wojciechowski set up our finish line, prepared all the food and kept everybody fed and happy; thanks guys.  Carson Walker provided the entertainment as runners finished.  Kristin couldn't do any of this without all the help and support from you guys. I do my best but I think I just get in the way; sometimes I wonder if she would prefer it if i just ran instead (hehe, haha). I love you babe. Happy Birthday to Pearl Jam and Sherm Smith, you guys both rock! Sherm is a class act all the way, thanks for running with us on your big day.  Here's to a speedy recovery to all the OV50 finishers, congratulations and cheers!

Big thanks to John, Kristin, and all the incredible volunteers!!! The weather and the course were surpassed only by your kind and timely support.

I quickly recognized that this was a labor of love that was felt with each encouraging word, pb sandwich, water bottle refill, and, of course, tasty little snickers.

I was inspired by the runners - armed with good attitudes and perseverance - and solute you all. Congrats on a great race!

Wow- Striders, thanks! You really know how to put on an event. The camaraderie among the runners, the amazing volunteers (the guy who rubbed the cramp out of my foot has my undying gratitude), the vegetarian chili at the finish line (I know you got that just for me!) I can't say enough about the experience. I don't know how you arranged for the meteorite show, the hot-air balloons, the peak of the fall colors, and the perfect temperature, but it all came together cosmically.
Thanks again!
