The temperature was 36 degrees when we started setting the courses up today in Huntsville and 62 degrees when we broke it down.  We had a lot of fun from 36 to 62.  The Huntsville Half Marathon & 5K was an event started by the track coaches at Weber State University as a community outreach tool and also a way to raise funds on a slim track & field budget.  Many of those coaches are still at Weber and have some great stories on the history and behind the scenes of the old Huntsville race; Huntsville started the whole road racing craze we know today. Over 30 years later the event still has legs (literally).  The Huntsville event has helped the track & field program at WSU purchase uniforms, send athletes on road trips, acquire new equipment and recruit student athletes to WSU.  Today the track & field program at WSU is one of the premiere programs in the country and as alumnus, we feel proud to have helped in some small way.  So, thank you to Weber State for letting us be involved.  Thank you to all the sponsors and much gratitude to all the runners who come out and give life to the event.  Congratulations to all the 2011 finishers; check out the results at www.strideracing.com

The Huntsville Half Marathon & 5K is in its third decade.  It's one of the original road races in Utah and the original half marathon; it helped launch the running craze today.  Weber State's track coaches started the race as a fundraiser for its program and to introduce road racing to the community.  This year's race is scheduled for September 3rd; the race starts and ends at historic Huntsville town park.  The race still benefits the Weber State Track Alliance.  Proceeds from the event helps athletes from WSU realize their collegiate and olympic aspirations.  For years runners have used the half marathon as a tune-up race for the St. George marathon.  The course runs on the east side of Pineview Reservoir in Ogden Valley before backtracking through a field & stream and then towards the Monastery on the far east side of Hutsville.  The half marathon course is flat and fast and offers some of the most scenic views of Ogden Valley.  If you're not ready for 13 miles then you can race around the perimeter of downtown Huntsville in the 5K.  Male & Female half marathon winners receive free round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Hess travel, but there's lots of opportunity to win cool prizes in the raffle after the race.  Thanks for the support; we at STRIDERS appreciate it as do the coaches at WSU.  For race details and registration call us at STRIDERS 801-728-9121 or visit www.stridersrunning.com
